Health Literacy, Home Environmental Influence and Ethnicity and its Association to Adherence to Nutrition and Physical Exercise Guidelines in Adolescents and Young Adults Cancer Patients and Survivors: An Exploratory Study


Identify the role of health literacy, ethnicity and home environmental influence, in the adherence to nutrition and physical activity recommendations in adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer patients and survivors


To assess AYA patients and survivors treated at Moffitt Cancer center barriers of adherence to nutrition and physical activity recommendations Explore the association of these barriers to adherence to nutrition and physical activity recommendations and its relation to environmental influences, including cultural factors. Explore the association of nutrition and physical activity behaviors, and its relation to health literacy




Inclusion Criteria

  • AYA cancer patients who have been diagnosed and are in the process of treatment, including Moffitt’s Total Cancer Care (TCC) consented patients.
  • AYA survivors who have completed treatment.
  • Patients diagnosed with any type of cancer, although we are focused on those with solid tumors or any type of leukemia diagnosis.
  • AYA patients diagnosed between the ages of 18 to 39.

  • Exclusion Criteria

  • AYA cancer patients or survivors with severe cognitive impairments
