Keep Asking Questions- Meet Cathy
After a question about a lump and receiving a good note of health, Cathy still had questions. She decided to go to Moffitt for a second opinion.
Cathy's cancer was difficult to detect, but after her biopsy she discovered that she not only had breast cancer, but two types. Devastating news did not bring this momma down. She hung onto the fact that she had one of the most treatable versions of breast cancer and that her treatment would soon come to an end.
“[Moffitt] never treated me like I was sick person… that was incredible because it kept me in the mindset that I’m going to get better,” says Cathy.
Fighting Strong
On her journey to wellness she endured some personal hardships including a double mastectomy and grueling rounds of chemotherapy.
Her support system rallied around her by creating Cathy’s Fight Club on the day of her mastectomy. They supported her in every aspect by giving her meals, taking care of her kids, cleaning her house and writing letters of encouragement. She got through the final round and took time to educate those around her.
An Advocate
Even though Cathy was younger than the recommended age for a woman to get a mammogram, she now knows she would have been at stage 4 if she waited much longer. That’s why she encourages other women to perform self-exams and not give up on answers to questions they have about their health. Cathy has come a far distance already on her road to recovery after treatment. She hasn't stopped doing the things she loves and has even completed a half marathon.
