Overview
Dr. Jason Klapman is a gastroenterologist and Medical Director of Endoscopy in the Gastrointestinal Oncology Department at Moffitt Cancer Center. He is an Senior Professor of oncology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Klapman received his medical degree from Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Rush University, Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center, where he was chief resident his last year. Dr. Klapman pursued additional training through a gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Chicago and an interventional endoscopy fellowship at the University of California at Irvine Medical Center. His clinical interests center around the diagnosis, staging and treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies with a focus on pancreatic cancer using advanced endoscopic procedures such as endoscopic ultrasound and ERCP. He is a nationally recognized gastroenterologist and researcher and has been invited faculty or course director for multiple educational and hands-on courses around the country focusing on education and training in gastroenterological procedures. Dr. Klapman performs clinical endoscopic research focusing on improving the diagnosis and treatment of a multitude of precancerous and cancerous gastrointestinal conditions. Dr. Klapman along with four of his colleagues from around the country have formed a research collaborative group called Mucin (mucingroup.com) whose purpose is to perform multicenter trials with this gastrointestinal endoscopy focus. This group has already generated multiple publications and research presentations at national meetings. Dr. Klapman’s research interests include early detection and screening of pancreatic cancer in high-risk individuals. He currently has an ongoing clinical trial enrolling patients at high-risk. He is also currently enrolling patients to compare two types of needles that place gold markers which are used to guide radiation in patients with pancreas cancer.
