Speech Language Pathology

Speech pathologists at Moffitt

Speech and language pathology can be helpful to a cancer patient whose treatment has affected his or her ability to communicate verbally. For instance, a patient’s voice may become weak or hoarse, or his or her speech could sound slurred and unclear as a result of treatment. Additionally, general fatigue, which affects many cancer patients, can impact an individual’s ability to concentrate and express his or her thoughts. Some cancer patients also experience swallowing difficulties during or after treatment. Speech and language therapy can help a cancer patient resolve these issues and enable him or her to communicate more effectively with family members, co-workers, friends and others.

At Moffitt Cancer Center, we offer a full range of speech and language services provided by a multispecialty team of professionals with advanced degrees and certificates of clinical competency. Our speech pathologists work closely with head and neck surgeons, radiation oncologists and other specialists to develop an individualized treatment plan and ensure the best possible approach for each patient.
